Here are some of the apps I will be introducing at my workshop for iPads in the English Classroom.

iPad Apps for the English Classroom

*

Chirp - (Free)

Instantly transfer of files, links, photos.  This is particularly good if you want everyone with an iPad to have the same file instantly.  Great for sharing website links.  I often use this when having students fill out a Google Form.

*

Instashare - (Free - 100 yen w/o adds) & (Mac version 300yen)

Similar to Chirp.  Drag and drop transfer of photos and files to others with Instashare. You can also transfer directly to your Mac or PC.

*

Socrative Teacher/ Socrative Student - (Free)

This is used for making quizzes and getting quick answers to votes or general questions. Using the teacher version, the teacher can see live results of student progress. Quizzes can be set up to be graded automatically. Once the quiz is done, results can be emailed and then uploaded to Google Docs, Numbers, or Excel.

*

Popplet Lite - (Free)

Used for mind mapping, taking notes during reading and writing or taking pictures. Students can add photos, drawings and text. The popplet can be exported as an image and then loaded into another app, such as Educreations for voice over recording.

*

Educreations - (Free)

Recording software. Demonstration and recording. Used for making lessons or explanations. Add photos or images from the web, camera roll, or Dropbox.

*

Explain Everything - (300 yen)

Same as Educreations. Students can record and draw at the same time, explaining anything they like. You can also add photos from the camera roll and then share presentations to Google Drive.

*

Puppet Pals HD (Free) /Puppet Pals HD Director’s Pass (300 yen)

Great app for story making and retelling. Students can insert pictures of themselves or use the pre-made characters. They can then record their voice and animate the characters during a retell.

*

Pic Collage - (Free)

Using a variety of layouts, you can put photos and text together quickly and either email or save the photo to the camera roll. Use Chirp or Instashare to transfer files to other devices.

*

Reflector (airsquirrels.com/reflector/) - (US12.99)

This application can be installed directly on a Mac or PC, if you do not have an Apple TV. Use the AirPlay option on your iOS device to share your screen and sound to the computer.

*

Apple TV (store.apple.com/jp) - (10,400 yen)

Similar to Reflector - Stream live video and audio from your iOS device to a TV or projector.
